Penetesting Blog

Welcome, As I have falling in love with Ethical Hacking and penetesting I would like to share my progress along the way with all of you. I currently attend Valencia College for Cyber Security. Having went to school for Law and Anthropology, I find Cyber Security to be the most challenging yet rewarding.

What is Penetesting? It is a mixture of cybersecurity, programming, passive information gathering, system administration, and problem preventing and solving.

How does one begin in the penetester field? From my experience the internet is the most valuable tool no matter the skill level of the penetester. Almost every single answer can be found online with the proper searching skill set. As for accomplishments and credentials certification’s can be more valuable then a degree at times. Comptia is the most popular as of now. https://www.comptia.org/ here you will find the from start to advanced each certificate that one would want to obtain in regards to climbing the cybersecurity/penetesting ladder. As for me I’m working on getting my security + certification as many jobs desire or put you a set above the competitors if this is on your resume.

Advanced Penetester.

Once the networking and security skills have been mastered, the real fun begins. There are countless certification’s and skills (which many of us like to call it our “tool box”) to work on and towards. Here is a few more advanced certificates to take you deeper into the web and a career:

  • Certified Network Defender
  • Certified Ethical Hacker
  • Certified Ethical Hacker (Practical)
  • EC-Council Certified Security Analyst
  • EC-Council Certified Security Analyst (Practical)
  • Licensed Penetration Tester
  • GIAC: GIAC Certified Penetration Tester (GPEN)
  • Mile2: Certified Penetration Testing Consultant (CPTC)
  • Mile2: Certified Penetration Testing Engineer (CPTE)
  • Offensive Security: Offensive Security Certified Professional (OSCP)

There is too many different career titles to mention here but I do encourage each of you to look at all the different areas in cybersecurity. The most exciting but challenging thing about cybersecurity is that it is forever changing. One day you could know all of the malware and virus, the very next hour there is a new worm or trojan that has change the entire game up and how to look are firewalls and vulnerabilities to company assist.
